Snapple and the Meaning of Life

I don’t know why but I have been on a Snapple kick lately. Usually I am a water person. Zero Water and Aquafina is my favorite because both have the fluoride removed through reverse osmosis. Kiwi Strawberry has been my flavor of choice. It seems to be impossible to find in my neighborhood. I think the other Snapple lovers out there are getting really mad at me for buying them all up! Mango Madness has been my second choice, but it tastes like a Jelly Belly jellybean to me so I can’t drink many of them.

The best part of drinking Snapple is the silly and random facts on the lids. Sometimes they are useless and other times funny, but once in a great while the facts are really worthwhile. Here are a few facts I have collected over the past two weeks:

Real Fact #732: The chicken is the closest living relative of Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Real Fact #736: More babies are born at night than during the day.

Real Fact #757: There are approximately 7,000 feathers on an eagle.

Real Fact #782: The human jaw can generate a force up to 200 pounds on the molars.

Real Fact #812: 111,111,111 x 111,111,111 = 12,345,678,987,654,321

Real Fact #867: Franklin Roosevelt was related to 5 U.S. Presidents by blood and 6 by marriage.

Real Fact #874: Harry S. Truman’s middle name is S.

Real Fact #924: The highest denomination issued by the U.S. was the 100,000 dollar bill.

My favorite one so far has been the math problem (Real Fact #812). It is something I have seen before but I had forgotten all about it. Multiple Sclerosis (MS) will do that to your memory but the good part is that it makes everything old new again so TV Show and Movie repeats sometimes seem like I am watching them for the first time. I wonder if any Snapple lids have MS Facts on them.

My son loves these caps and their facts so much that he started collecting them. It reminds me of when I was a kid and I used to save all the bottle caps off of my sodas and sometimes my Dad’s beer bottles. I used to use them for art projects and stick them into my cork board and dart board in patterns when I was bored. Too bad I didn’t hold onto them all because I can think of a ton of cool stuff to do with them now that I am an adult. I remember a few years ago I bought my kids bottle cap belts on eBay. They loved those stupid belts and after an intense bidding war I ended up paying a fortune for them.

We have already come up with a really cool idea for the Snapple lids. My son is going to build or buy a small table and paint or stain it. Then he is going to attach the caps to the top, most likely with an adhesive like Krazy Glue. To finish it off he plans to cover the flipped over lids with a piece of custom cut glass. I think it is going to be really cool! The only problem we have encountered with this idea is how to stop the lids from collecting dust because when they are flipped upside down they function like an itty-bitty bowl.
